What is Aikdo
Aikido is a new martial art that has been developed by Morihei Ueshiba. The main purpose of Aikido is to build a strong mind, body, and spirit for use in daily life. In addition, Aikido also trains its students to learn to live in harmony with themselves and with one another.
The Principle of Budo
Budo (a martial art) is not a means of felling an opponent by force of leathal instruments. Neither is it intended to lead the world to destruction by arms and other illegitimate means. True Budo calls for bringing the inner energy of the Universe to order, protecting the peace of the world and molding, as well as preserving everything in nature in its right form.
The Techniques of Aikido
Aikido techniques employ circular rather than linear movements, with the defender moving out of the line of attack and then using his opponent's own momentum to overcome him. The defender does not attempt to block his opponent's blows or in any way to clash with his opponent's force. Instead, he "leads" his opponent's power and mind. Thus, it is essential for the student to learn to sense the direction of his attacker's power in order first to avoid it an then to use it. Aikido is unique in a number of ways, particularly in body movements and footwork. The form of Aikido may be equated with a triangle, circle, and square. Triangle means creativety, circle means unlimited development and square means a state of harmony.
Ki - The Vital Force of Aikido
Ki is the power of the spirit or the mind that can be drawn from the universe. In Aikido, we try to lean how to summon this force at will and apply it not only to the techniques, but also to all phases of our daily life. The aim of Aikido training is to control this power in such a way this will flow naturally whenever it is needed.
