Aikido literally translates as "the way of spirit harmony". It is a non-competitive martial art for self defense that emphasizes blending with an attackers incoming energy rather than fighting it. Its focus on awareness and relaxation, which make it an ideal art for men and women of all ages. Students of all levels of experience practice together during class.
Most students find that training 2 to 3 times a week helps develop their ability to master the techniques and feel secure in the form. Classes begin with a short warm-up. The instructor then focuses on teaching one or more techniques, helping students individually as necessary.
